i got myself a few neons yesterday, just to see how they would fare in my tank before i decide whether to clear some space out and have a 'massive' shoal in my tank. a couple of scrawny ones have died overnight, but the rest are eating well and look happy.

however i noticed one of them has what looks like a white spot on its side, definitely pronounced from the body of the fish. its not like a whitespot spot, looks like a zit. its pale in colour and is situated at the end of the red stripe, but level with the blue stripe on the fish. if you see what i mean.

ive heard about neon tetra disease, but know nothing of it. id rather put the fish down than risk this 'zit' popping and releasing into my water.

what do you think it could be ? its probably a waste of my time trying to get a picture.

edit - quickly reading up on NTD, it doesnt sound like my problem. the fish hasnt lost its colour and is acting perfectly normal.

I had a green neon with exactly the same thing earlier this year, My friend and I decided it was most probably bacterial, so I treated it with a course of Myxazin in a hospital tank and it recovered very well; I'm not even sure which one it is now.

I did have another tetra with another problem at the same time so it wasn't alone in the hospital tank; I think it might be a good idea if you put one of the others in with it; it might be very stressful for the one with the spot to be isolated.

Have the temp in the hospital tank a bit warmer and put some plastic plants or something in there for cover, and a thin layer of substrate; you don't wat them to get any more stressed.
