today i brought 11 new neons, meant to be 10 for £3 but obviously lfs cant count lol. i have them in my 54 litre jewel tank with the following fish:

2 bosemani rainbows
2 sunset platies
2 harlequins
2 otto's

the tank has dark gravel, live plants, bogwood and rocks, the neons seem to be hiding most of the time.

are they frightened, how can i get them to come to the front? or will they become more confident in a few days or weeks?

thanks for your help,

oh and could a red male Betta fit in with this setup?

Water stats, ammonia, nitrite etc?

That tank isnt big enough for 2 boesmani's IMO.

Single betta might be ok, depends on the temprement of the betta, some will accept company others will kill anything they can get hold of. The tetras may/may not nip the bettas tail.

turn the lights off, imagine you were suddenly shoved into a bag then taken on a journey where you dont know where you are, then released in something you have no clue of, leave them a few days, dont feed for 2 and theyll be fine.

and no a male betta doesnt make a good comunity fish.

when are you re=housing those rainbows?

and where did you get your neons from?(i want to know!)

not sure on the betta but just give the neons a little time to adjust.pretty soon they'll be swimming around together.and if they're like mine, you'll have a couple that won't like each other.

water stats are fine, ok so no to the betta, which other colourful fishes would fit into my set up?, thanks for youur help everyone, and the rainbows are staying, they are the nicest fish i have ever had, i know they are big but they should be ok in my tank because they wont grow to full potential, i'll risk it

oh and theres only one thats a loner, all the others are together, and i got my neons from slippery sales in stourport, near where i live in kidderminster, west midlands

i mean by fine that the water stats are perfect, im not thick i know whats high and low, i know that its fine. the rainbows are fine, anyway even if they die i can buy some more

NO!!! if the rainbows die dont buy more, get a smaller species of rainbow, geez! your killing them and its wrong!

your opinion of fine and my opinion of fine may differ, please post your stats. if theres no problem then you would post them wouldnt you?

what 2 fish deaths is cruel, cruel is surley when u buy 30 brine shrimp just to get killed, isnt that cruel, the thats 30 deaths, 30 minds, 30 little lives that will get savagely demolished after getting chased by a fish that is 20 times their size, ill post water stats in a min

Good price on the neons, must pop over for a look at the weekend (nice and local), Im trying to track down some Dwarf Puffers so i have a few to visit in the near future
