I fed my 3 panda corys and my 6 neon tetras bloodworm today but the neons look like they are ready to burst is this normal?

I'm guessing they will be missing their next feed anyways they look like they eaten a 6 course meal lol

I wouldn't feed bloodworms to neon tetras, I know this doesn't happen to everyone but I've had 2 neons blow up o_O literally their stomached exploded, and they weren't freeze dried either.

oh jesus i bought them to put in the sand for my panda corys but the tetras started eating them too....

I don't like the sound of that, these were frozen blocks of them...

I've been feeding all my fish, including neons, with bloodworms for years without any problems. The trick is not to put too many in the tank, as fish will gorge on them. Fish, unlike mammals, have no mechanism that tells them when they're full, so they will just carry on eating, if the food is there.

With the frozen ones, you'll probably find that one block is far too much for the amount of fish you have; you can, however, cut the blocks up with a knife. I would guess a quarter of a block would be plenty for your fish.

I feed frozen food once a week (as they're not actually very nutritionally balanced), with a fast day the next day so, if they have eaten too much, they have a chance to clear that from their gut before they're fed again.

Mine get very big tummies when I feed bloodworms, cause they're greedy and don't let the other fish have some

So I suppose it's normal but not good for them.

That is really scary Saw, perhaps I should stop feeding bloodworms in that tank

*Edit* Glad to hear that Flutter, that puts me at ease a little and hopefully the OP will feel better too.
I don't think I overfeed the bloodworms but when the same neons keep grabbing them before other fish then it gets a little difficult.

ahh ok thanks for all your help once again. will cut the blocks up and see how that goes. Yeah the tummies are HUGE the corys got the left overs i think lol,

god i feel like I'm asking you lot really stupid questions lol why wouldn't i think about cutting the block.....

Hey, we all sometimes fail to see the most obvious things, and then feel totally dumb when someone points it out :)

The only stupid question is the one that is not asked.

Worms are also kinda fattening so chopping them to mouth-sized bits is more economical than just throwing a block in for the sake of personal convenience :)

Another way is to defrost the bloodworm in a small pot with tank water and when you add it to the tank pour it in over your filter outlet so it gets blown around the tank rather than in one place.
