One of my neon tetras looks a little odd... he's still rather young (he's pretty small), and he has a little lump where his belly is. It almost looks pregnant, it looks really out of place. I'm trying to get a good picture, but you know how they are! He also is swimming with his head down a little bit. you can kind of see the largness of his belly and the angle he's swimming in this picture, although it's really blurry. Is this swim bladder disease? What should I treat it with, and is it contagious? I have him quarantined, and I've done one salt bath so far.
Also, all the water stats are good, and I did a 20% change yesterday. No one is picking on him, either, that I can tell.

I've had a few like this does it look like a lumpy cyst, it looks abit hard as though it's filled with fluid, and it does the lump point out, has the fish lost its colouring also in the red stripe.

yeh, not so must a cyst but just a pregnant belly, the red stripe fades some times and they swin at an angel, iv seen this come and go since iv had tetras. iv ignored it becasue it only last a day or 2 and they all seem to get it every now and then.

What do you feed the fish and what does it look like when they go to the toilet, two many dry foods can cause problems, try some shelled peas and daphnia as neon tetra's like daphnia frozen best, the red stripe do you mean they lose the red when sleeping and when you first turn the tanks lights on.

As for mine, I've never had this happen before, but I'm fairly new to it all. It looks like just a fat belly... no real edges or anything. It's almost like it swallowed some round object. I haven't seen it poop yet today (though I've been trying to catch it in the act). So far the color on it has been fine... a little faded first thing in the morning when I turn on the lights, but great after that. It also seems to eat fine. Mostly I feed Wardley's Spectrum Color flake food and tubifex worms cubes. Occasionally it gets shrimp pellets too (I sink them for my ADFs). You think I should try a green pea?

That's normal for the red stripe to look faded when you first turn the tanks lights on, yes i would put abit more variety in there diet, they needs some frozen foods, boil some peas for a few minutes, let cool, then pop out of it shell and squeeze between fingers and add to the tank.

I would buy some frozen foods in bloodworms, brimestrimp, and daphnia, good luck.

It sounds like it is but you can cure it on peas sometimes, if they also can't maintain there balance in the water, thats usually swim bladder, but once is has progressed there is no cure, dropsy usually has scales sticking out.

Yes it applies to all fish, good luck.

A few of my neons had the same problem that I noticed. I fast them for a day or two, and it usually goes away.

Shelled peas yes then you can fast.
