Hi

Can anyone help me with this problem - one of my tetras is starting to lose it colour. I don't think its neon tetra disease, as none of the symptoms fit - its behaving normally, swimming with the rest and showing no signs of discomfort.

It maybe old age (I hope) as it was one of the first fish I bought about 2 years age, or is it something more worrying.

Water parameters are PH 7.0 Amonia 0.00 Nitrite 0.0 Nitate 0.0, temp 28.00

Thanks

Whats your tap nitrate reading, do you have live plants in the tank.
Any blacking lining around the red stripe, or lumps on the belly that go to a point.

Is it just at night? They loose their colour at night or if its dark a lot of the time, mine do it all the time

Thanks for the response Wilder & zoekin8yg,

There is no black lining aroound the stripe or any lumps on the belly. Water tap nitrate is 0.00, the I do have some plants in the tank, but had a major prune and clear out a few weeks ago.

The colour loss is permenent, with the upper half fading to a blotchy brown, and the red underside just fading.

Been trying to get a picture but it won't stay still ans as I said its still eating, behaving normally, and showing no signs of stress.

Will keep trying to get a photo

Thanks again.

That fine then very rare to have a nitrate reading of 0.
You could still be dealing with ntd think one of mine went brown with ntd.
Any signs of flicking and rubbiing, brown can be velvet to columnaris.

Thanks for the link there,

It dose look like its going that colour.

Now I've got to consider the options, first will be to isolate it- I have a small tank at a mates. I'll set that up tomorrow and transfer it into that (taking a photo in the process) and see what happens from there.

Water stats in this area always seem to be good, but thats Scotland for you.

Again thanks for all the advice and prompt response.

I had neon tetra they came down with ntd and they all showed different symtoms.
Good luck been there and not nice.
