i have 6 neons
5 usually sits together the other 1 stays at the back only comes for food why

Can't tell you... we'll need a lot more information first.

How did you add them to your tank? Did you let them get used to the water first?
What are your water stats at? In numbers (read the instructions) rather than colours.
What is the temperature in your tank at?
Do any of the other fish in your tank chase them?
Have the others been eating fine as well?
Is he hiding behind an ornament/plant or anything?
Does the one on his own look ill?

I honestly simply put it down to your tank being overstocked. I think you more than likely have too many fish in your tank, making your neons feel uncomfortable in the tank. The shoaling together means they're not fully comfortable in your tank. Then again, you only added them about a day ago, it usually takes up to a week for them to get used to a new enviroment.

because the other five have decided he is a smelly and don't want to be his friend anymore. They are also in the process of creating their own underwater rock band to which he is not invited.

bettas.....you do ask the most bizarre/stupid questions sometimes without providing any assisting information.

prehaps one day you will learn (although I doubt it!)

yes floated the bag for 20 mins
the stats are fine dont worry
i have had th heater on all afternoon from 12.40 - 3.30 so its now about 80.sometimes my serpae tetra has a go

he doestnt look ill no.
ok 2 days ago i added them
i say the others stay toghether thats sometimes usuully they will go off on there own all over then if 1 sees another he will go to them and all join

bettas why can you never post your water stats? When asked about them all you do is say fine! What are the exact results you have if any?!

ok
amonoia-well it doesent match the chart colour is white
ph=7
nitrate=0
nitrite=0

Would you mind posting your readings of the water parameters anyway? I'd like to check how fine they are myself if you don't mind =)

How often does it happen that your serpae tetra chases him?
If he doesn't look ill, I don't think there's too much you can do without having a quaranteen tank or returning the fish to the shop. I think he's just weakened because of the store time/trip home/being added to a new aquarium. Do you know what the water stats in your lfs were, so we can compare them? There might have been a PH difference or something.

I do fear the worst to be honest

What do you mean it doesnt match the chart? And how are your nitrates 0? How many plants do you have?

live plants i have quite a lot
not that often he chases him well he chases all neons
dont know the shops ph

I'm just confused as to how your nitrates would be 0 as these are the end product from the cycle and they very rarely get down to 0 and your tank has not long been cycled if those results are correct.

If it was cycled you would have nitrates unless your tank is very heavily planted which I don't think it is!

It does, but it's hard to read on the test strips. I too have that problem ... so we simply state it as 0 because it's low =)

Lets just assume the tank is cycled, it's not unlikely that it is. And if not, he does water changes (small/medium) once every 2 days, so the water stats probably are what he states them to be.

I'm more concerned about the temperature changes the tank will be going through if the heater is only on through out the afternoon. I've got him checking this evening if the thermometer on his heater works so he can leave it plugged in all day/night.

Please do keep in mind that he is still a child, one that doesn't get help from his parents I might add. He does try to keep his fish in the best condition possible, and like nearly everyone who was once a child, he too makes mistakes.

I actually think he's doing alright, he water stats are fine, the fish aren't dead (yet at least), and he tries his best. I know for a fact that most kids (average kids, not kids on this forums) wouldn't do water changes at all, or actually care about what the fish they're keeping feel like. Please try to understand we aren't all born experts.
