So I am pretty sure my neons have neon tetra disease. Out of original 16 there are now half this amount left. Been in the tank about 8 months now. How quickly would this disease spread and kill the neons is it fast? The remaining neons all look healthy apart from hiding at the back of the tank. Other fish are rainbows, gouramis, platies, corys and rams and all look fine and swimming around normally. So what next? I sort of feel like I am waiting for another tetra to die. I will up the water changes to twice weekly. One last thought....could liquid plant fertiliser be causing these problems?

Depends...what are you most recent water test results? Tank size?

Terry.

0 ammonia, 0 nitrite and 10 nitrate the tank is 190 litre approx 45 gallons.

Why do you think it is neon tetra disease?

Symptoms include faded colouring, not swimming and curved/crooked spine. One after another they die really concerned that the other fish in the tank end up with this!

Not that I know of anything that can cure NTD, but have you tried any treatment.
Normally it is highly contagious so the best you can do is remove fish that exhibit signs and hope for the best.

Not tried any treatment as I want to be pretty sure it is this disease. The other fish appear to be fine.....how long would neon tetra disease take to spread throughout a tank is it pretty fast?
