I think I have two neons, new arrivals, that came with NTD. the symptom looks like a white splotch underneath the skin. this is not ick or fungus. thier behavior for the time being is normal but I'm taking both out and ptting them in QT for the time being

If you have had neons before its as if its color has faded just as they do when they are streses, but never returns to particular spots on thier red strip.

I will try to get a picture If they could sit still long enough

My tetras went like that for about three weeks about four weeks after I got them, I left it alone despite being terrified it was NTD, luckily there were fine again after another two weeks and haven't lost any since.

Im having the same problem, this morning when i woke up i looked at the neons and counted to make sure they were there. I noticed that some of them werent really glowing as much as they usually do... and that they had some white dots on their back fin... but only the neons... would it be ok to put meds in the water even if the neons are the only one with this desease?

after utterly destroying my tank, they are out.... why cant fish understand

it is for thier own good,

(now hop into the net in an orderly fashion and i will carry you to the promiseland)

lllol, what are you doing to treat them?

as far as I have read here and other places i have searched on google, there isnt much hope for NTD, so they will essentially live a peacefull life in my snail factory until they inevitably become so ill they cant swim... or die.

if it clears up well then they get a chance to join thier little pals....

I'm done buyig neons though..

#### :( i have 7 neons and as far as i can see, 4 of them have these lil white specs on them :( someone told me theres a easy cure but i dunno. These were the first fish too :(

well if it looks like salt sprinkled on them, it is ick, or well most likely ick

neons are extremely susceptable to disease, so water parameters must be good.

there is lots of information on treating for ick... if I were you I would QT them so it does not infect the rest of the fish in the tank.

Neons also can give you an indicator by there colors fading if they are 'happy' or not. if there colros are faded, something is wrong with them or the water. currently those two fish that were infected still showed thier brilliant colors. as do the rest.

If any other neons show any wierd signs they are all getting QT'ed to protect the rest of the fish.

because neons are so susceptable to disease they are an early indicator of problems ahead, my experience is they dont recover very well, so I'm just letting them be.

Ic, this morning i noticed that they didnt really shine as they do.. and i just recently got this tank, well its my first tank ever and i flip about every lil problem lol. Like some fish dont get food so i make sure they do but they dont still and im worred about that. Our fish are ick'ed :(

my suggestion would be to read up as much on the forums and on the web about ich AKA white spot, then decide on a med. there are plenty of meds that will help cure ich. just be sure it is ich before you star medicating

If its not Ich and i put in medication will it harm it or no?

If your fish are already showing signs of disease it means they are severly infected. Ich attacks the point of least resistance, the gills, which in turn hampers its ability to breath. This is a tremendous amount of stress for a fish. RidIch+ which I had tried way back when I had a whole group of cherry barbs infected, failed for the very fact that it was too late. medications like RidIch+ also hampers breathing, http://www.novalek.com/kpd38.htm

so you could actually expidite the process and kill the fish by sufficating them, and harming the other fish with the medication, making them more susceptable to disease.

After my bought with ICh and the cherry babrbs passed, I had another bout just starting to show in the neons. instead of medicatig though, I raised the temperature to 81 degreaee( to increase the Ich metabolism) and started feeding them frozen foods like brine shrimp and blood worms (to keep them happy) they recovered and are thriving today , minus the new guys that are now in QT, and I had a deformed neons a while back that I put down.

Now I generally give the community a mixed diet of brine shrimp. blood worms daphnia, algeah tabs, shrimp pellets and tropical flakes.

regardless of the problems I have had with my filters and my water stats going completely hay wire, the fish have stuck through it, disease free (fingers crossed)

chances are the neons already showing signs of Ich, already have one foot in the casket, the best thing would be to isolate them from the healthy fish and then try to medicate.

Gotcha, my tank has been at around 82-84 for the past 3 or 4 days so i dont think i should raise that. But i will isolate those fish somehow or get a medication that doesnt hamper their breathign when i go to the store tomorrow. I will also test my waters to see if theres something else i can do to kill the itch

Neons can look pale when you first switch the tank lights on so don't panic, is there colour back now, if they have white spots on the fins sound like whitespot, does it look like grains of salt, if the specks are bigger spots you can get saddleback columnaris which ends up looking like a horse saddle, it start on the fins then goes to the back down the tummy area.
