My neon blue dwarf gourami is only moving one fin. The other is clamped to its body and only moves occasionally. slight tilting to the side with fin moving. constantly hange out up by the filter. I dont see any spots (ich)(velvet) and so on. Nothing noticable wrong with it. Still eats.

Tank:
size: 29g high
temp: 76F
nitrate: 10
nitrite: 0
ph: 7.2

just did 25% water change and gravel vaccum done today.

Do you have an ammonia reading.
Does the gourami look bloated or thin.
What does it look like when he goes to the toilet.
Does he look pale or darker in colour.
Is he acting listless and lethagic.
Can he maintain balance when swimming.
What do you feed the fish.

Hi Wilder,
Both gouramis hold balance when swimming.
They do not seem to be bloated or thin.
I have not been able to catch them go to the potty.
Color looks good from what I can tell.
I feed tetra color flakes, wardleys shrimp pellets, and occasionally drop in algae disks.
They do seem to be somewhat lethargic as the don't move around much

They seem like they are just resting at the top of the tank and only "paddling" occasionally. I think the tiltling may have been due to the water flow from the filter but can't be positive.

I have been unable to find a liquid test kit in my immediate area. I plan on branching out farther to look for one probably tomorrow if I am able. I do about 25% water changes every other day. My tank is however cycled and filter is 6 months old.

Tank size is 29 us gallon high 30L x 18H x 12W
filter is aquaclear 200 (running 6 months)

Tank is somewhat overstocked (not by my choice)
2 angels
2 dojo loaches
3 guppies
2 swordtails
2 gouramis
2 scissortails
1 neon black tetra
4 neon tetras
3 inch common pleco

Update on gourami

I finally saw the one pooh today. It doesn't look right. fish pooh is usually a long string that all stick together. This pooh does not stick together. I don't know how to describe it really as it looks very dry? almost like it disintegrates immediately.

Did another 30% water change today. The rest of the fish seem fine except the tetras dropping like flys :-(

I just figured out why my neon tetras are dying. Nox-Ich meds. Crud... :grr:

Is there a whitespot med in the tank.

You need to improve the fish diet with some frozen foods and veg.
Try feeding frozen daphnia and shelled peas.

When you preform a water change do you do a gravel vac.
Plecs are massive waste producers.
With your tank being overstocked it needs maintaining more.
Do you run another filter to help with the load.

Tilting to oneside and being lethagic can be bad water quality, consitpation, swim bladder, bacterial infection, internal parasites, unstable temp.

I have no idea where to get frozen daphnia or even what it is.
I am starting peas today.
I vaccum gravel every time I do water changes. I'm already in there so figure I might as well do it.
Going to do another massive water change today (at least 50%) I always match water temp when putting it back in.
Temp is constant between 76/78F never fluctuates more than that.
Still searching for liquid tester kit.
I have a black neon tetra with ich and am treating that too.
Gouramis still hanging at the top by the filter.
Angels are hanging by the bottom.

I'm going to start another Aquaclear 200 filter today with 1/2 the media from my old filter so both filters are processing at least something and hopefully the filter cycles to full potential faster.

Stocking levels are down as unfortunately I lost all my tetras. I found them in my filter tube of all places. Not sure if the suction was just too strong or they died and ended up sucked up.

I did get a good look at the gouramis today. It seems like they have a slight "pooch" where their bellies are? A little bloated I think. I have noticed one of my guppies looked like he was really having a hard time poohing and I'm hoping they are just constipated.

Wish me luck.

Have you increased aeration with the med.
What's the whitespot med called.
I think I would dilute the med down abit with a water change if fish are acting weird.

Daphnia a water flea and you can buy it at the lfs.

I turned my filter up to high, adding another today.
Med called Nox-Ich
Have an airstone running by heater
Doing water change/vaccum gravel now.
Just ordered API master kit online as NONE of my local fish stores carry it! The closest is 40 miles away! Hopefully it arrives ASAP!
I'm assuming canned peas won't work and they must be frozen?

Does it say in the med instructions if you have to half dose with certain fish.

You can use canned peas just rinse the pea and pop out of shell.

I did the canned peas. Some of the fish ate them. Some didn't. All I can do is hope my kit gets here quickly so I can make absolutely sure it isn't the water.

I did cut down the meds because it says use 1/2 on tetras and scaleless.

I'm going to keep doing large daily water changes and hopefully things work out. If not.... There isn't much I can do but try to fix things :(

This is where I am now.

60% water change this morning
Seemed to have slight improvement so I did another 20% this afternoon

Added another aquaclear 200 filter using part of the media from the original to hopefully cycle the filter faster and to increase filtration do to overstocking issues.

Used less of the Ich med as I still have a black neon tetra with ich. (he's the one that started it all....)

Fed crushed up canned peas (the dojo loaches LOVED them)

temp: 78F
nitrates: 10
nitrites: 0
PH: 7.6
Alkilinity: 270 (a tad on the high side?)
Chlorine: 0

I know strips are no good but it's all I have. Using two different kinds I come up with the same numbers.

Liquid test kit has been shipped according to marinedepo.com where I ordered it.

If I skip feeding flakes tonight and tomorrow will the fish eventually eat the peas from the bottom? There isn't tons of it of course but some pieces down there...lol

Remove the uneaten peas with a net.
They will cause bad water quality.

Let me know how they get on if you don't mind.
Good Luck.

I woke up today with all the fish still alive which is a major plus. One gourami is now hiding behind the castle and swimming fairly well when he moves. The other is at the top of the tank still.

My angels are moving around the tank fairly well as they were hanging either high or low yesterday.

I am going to feed peas again today. The dojo's cleaned it all up last night.

Doing another water change today to be on the safe side :)

Test kit is in the mail on its way as I type :good:

How do I get rid of a bacterial bloom? I'm assuming it isn't dust particles because the filter would have taken care of that wouldn't it?

It might be the second filter.
Might of not been enough benefical bacteria.
Give it a few days to see if it clears up.
Check water stats.
