Right out of the blue one of my previously breeding pair of Neolamprologus Pulcher is dying.....fast!

One minute (I am pretty sure it's the female) it is swimming about quite normally then a bit later I see it up in the top corner of the tank on it's side.
I netted it and placed in a floating breeding trap. It's belly seemed swollen and the vent very dark. The vent looked sealed but not protruding nor expelling anything. I tried gently squeezing but no joy. She will briefly swim about if stimulated but then just sinks to her side and lays still. Not much longer for this world I fear.

I have obviously done the 4 usual tests; results are zero for both Ammonia and Nitrite. PH is at 7.4 (as always) and Nitrate at 40 (as from the tap)

No other fish seems effected

Opinions please to see if they match my own

Thanks for the overwhelming response! Dead now anyways :/

Sorry to hear it, I wouldn't have been able to suggest anything anyway...all stats fine, I assume no new additions either? in which case it could only be from an attack or a swimbladder problem maybe... neither of which you could do anything about I don't think, you would have had to let nature take it's course regardless.

This does highlight that there seems to be an expectation for wilder to respond to fish emergencies and if he is not around (he is allowed a break :)) then not much goes on....at least that what it seems like.

I try and work through new posts when I can and I am sure others do too so it's unfortunate you didn't get a reply.

Sorry for the loss, I hope nothing else is up, by all accounts it sounds like the other fish in your tank will be fine *fingers crossed*

Cheers for that :good:

Was thinking possible bloat or may be egg bound -_-

First fish loss for, well, ever really. Not up on fish death causes as it doesn't usually happen for me. Never mind, easily replaced......it's not like loosing a dog or anything

About the response thing......there was a time on this forum ('back in the day') when loads of people would respond even if they couldn't offer any real answers just to keep the site open. Over ten views and only your input...maybe a sign of the times :/

Sign of the times indeed, no sense of real community these days....maybe the forum is heading this way as newer younger members come on board? Who knows...
I'm getting cynical in my old(ish) age :)
I'd love for the younger ones to prove me wrong, I really would...
