Hi there , looking into setting up small tank in the next few months.
I know very little about various "shell dwellers" but would really like to see if I could set this up.
Problem is lack of space so 24" tank might just go with the help of a large shoe horn , might have to be but hopefully not 18" tank.
Really want to pull out all the stops here so external filter and heater to gain more internal space.
1. are these tanks big enough?
2. how many fish?
3. have read about some people keeping dwarf neon rainbow fish with these guys , advisible ? Y/N?
4. can any other fish go in with them? i.e. top dwellers or some type of dithers?
5. plants if any , what would be best?

Any advice , ideas or suggestions greatly appreciated :good:

Shellies are great fish and are perfect for the smaller tanks. Multies are one of the most popular shell dweller and for good reason. Their antics will keep you amused for quite a long time. Start off with a small group of around 6. Be sure to have at least 3 shells per fish. Watching them arrange the shells to their likeing is a thing to see. You can add plants and rocks if you like but they are purely asthetic. As far as dithers, danios are a popular choice.

Dwarf rainbows are also a good choice for dithers, as are hatchetfish I believe. :good:

Keep them in a tank by themselves. They are quite shy otherwise. Small tanks with sandy substrate and a lot of shells is your best set up. These are Tangs, so they like the water a littel harder with pH around 9
