Neolamprologus Multifasciatus Tank

Hi , I never saw these posts earlier, looking lovely , I'm still very jealous of your background , just to say I have been inspired by this tank and the arc tank, today I received the last of my "Tang Kit" , originally I was supposed to get a second tank but finances and my ever changing better haf put the clamps on it so to speak. Tomorrow or Wednesday should receive Escargot shells £7.30 for 48 plus P&P, will let you know how I get on and if I don't get ripped off will post up the supplier.. Sorry for hijacking your thread I get carried away, just excited, patience running out , lol , your tanks are lovely , just waiting to see what you come up with next......

Looks great ! seen you had a post on another thread about not being sure these were multi's, by the looks of them id be about 99% sure they are, similis tend to be alot more elongated with more bars... i have a rekord 70 myself with a trio of lamprologus ocellatus gold which il be downgrading to a 60 as theres no need for the extra height.. heres some pictures!..

They are nice, funny to watch, probably, the best fish ive ever watched, should say, i spose, that my tank looks totally different now its done through about 3 changes since those last pics, i guess i should get some new pics up.

Out of interest, what sand do you use? Where did you get the escargot shells from and what size blue stone and how many kilos did you order? I'm thinking about an iwagumi-esque Lamprologus tank, probab[font="arial][size="3"]ly ecollatus, maybe multies, not sure yet. but it will be in the summer. I'm just worried about the weight of the tank, along with the depth of the sand, how deep is your sand?[/size][/font]

ok..

Sand is cheap old argos play sand
spread evenly is about 2 inches covering the whole base.
I ordered 8kg of TGM blue stone, however im not even using that now, im using some left over seriyu as i fancies a change.

As a cheaper option, get a clearseal tank, something like the 18" version is enough imo.

you should get some new pictures up . argos play sand is the way to go with these little fellas, its great about £3 a 15kg bag and they love digging in it! escargot shells can be found in specialist food stores & ebay.. ive been mad after neothauma shells for a while now with no joy..

oh, and before i forget if you dont mind me asking... where did you get that background

The background is "Bark" By Marina(or really, Hagen)

The rio would be wayyyy too tall, not that thats a bad thing, really, just a lot of wasted space.

Multies can be kept in a tang community, although you would have to pick your species carefully, and have a fair bit of rock in the tank, and the shells clustered in one corner so they stick to their patch.

Mutlies are quite aggressive though, they will have a go at almost anything really, but if the other thing gives them a go back then that will probably shut them up.

Julies can be kept with multies, asking on the forum is probably a better way to go about it.

i didnt silicon mine, just cut it so it would fit tight, there are disadvantages to having a 3d background, i might add.

The new pics, erm. I'll try and get some up on sunday after i have tidied up

what would the disadvantages be? the fact that the algae is hard to get off them?
