Not sure which cichlid forum this goes in so i put it in here and if the mods want to move it so be it :)

ok im interested in multis VERY interested there is just one question whats the best wat to raise the Ph to 8-8.5 and Dh (is that the same as Kh) my Ph is around 7.5 or something not sure on Kh at the minute but i know its very low and needs raising (not at home at the moment to check)

soo any help will be appreciated oh also where can i source these little guys in the uk are they readily available?

Adding any of the following should raise pH
Ocean Rock
Tufa Rock
Coral
Aragonite coral gravel
Aragonite coral sand
You can also add coral gravel in a media bag in your filter for a constant buffer rather than using addatives during water changes.
You can buy cichlid buffers, check Seachem and Kent, also Caribsea African Cichlid sand, it claim to buffer the pH.

I'm not big on chemistry here but there is an old thread on here that would have been good pinned,
Bicarbonate of Soda
Jaaps health salts / tonic salts
I had a copy of the third but all lost now, no memory
basically adding x amount during each water change, one upped the pH and one upped the kh..
Hope this helps set you in the right direction :good:

Quoted from Multifasciatus journal AdAndrews TFF

"1tsp epsom salts (magnesium sulphate)
1tsp bicarb
1tsp TONIC salt(the salt that would be used for freshwater tanks, treating ailments

per 5gallons."

Hope this helps :good:

lovely mate thanks for that info!

so instead of messing about with the water chemistry in the bucket i can just add coral gravel to the filter and just chuck the water right in and that will raise the ph and kh?

also is there any such thing as having too much of any of those in my tank like the rocks and sand? so say like that it will raise the PH and kh too much or will it just stop working when it gets to a certain level?

The aragonite will raise the pH/kh to a certain level then stop raising it any further regardless of how much more you add, wouldn't worry about it to much for the Multies, my pH is 7 from the tap and I had mine in it before I added any aragonite :good:

thanks kiriyama thats great ill start with aragonite sand to begin with then :)

if i add any ocean rock for decoration will that have any extra effect at all?
