USA,
One of my lfs's had like 50 of these the other day. I have a spare 10 gallon and was wondering if any of these would be able to live in one of those? Those are shell dwelers also right?

Neolamprologus brichardi are cave dwellers, not shell dwellers. They are one of the Tanganyikan Cichlids that likes to be in family groups. The males can get to 5 inches and the females to 3.

oh, i really would like to get a shell dweller, but the ones at my lfs have outrageous prices. These guys wouldnt eat live plants would they?

You should be ok with plants as long as you go with something like Anubias or Java Fern. Alot of the plants such as Amazon Swords don't do well with the PH requirements of the Shellies. The Shellies do tend to be pricey... we have them starting at 14.99 and going up from there.

Shellies are ok with live plants, so I've heard, but you have to have sufficient lighting and your plants have to be tolerant of high ph. Vallis is excellent for this... after all, it's native to the lakes.

Shelldwellers work great with plants, using them for cover and leaving them alone. The only real problem is that shelldwellers tend to be diggers, so you may find plants floating when you get home.

Shelldwellers don't need an especially high ph, anything over 7.5 is fine. There is no lack of plants that will work in ph 7.5-8.

Whatever you do, don't buy N Brichardi and put them in your 10g... :p It is way too small, and even in much larger tanks, they have tendencies to take over the whole tank...

Which shell dweller do they sell at your area?

a whole bunch. they must have gotten in a big batch. They had Lamparologus brichardi something, and Lamp. something tetra. The names are kinda scratched out ( they use paint pens to write on the names. ) Basically the lamp kinds. They have dividers for them in the tank. Why would that be? But they some how are all mixed. Very confussing area of the store.

You really need to get the correct names of those species if you want to get any useful advices...

i cant remeber the whole things for the life of me, would using pictures of them help?

If you want a straight out shell dweller who is small and entertaining look for Lamprologus Ocellatus, you won't be disappointed :)

Pictures would help as well in identifying some so post away ;)

Oh man, those two have completely different behaviors and characteristics... Again, look carefully and see which one it is!
