When I lived in the Caribbean I would always hook tarpon in the canals, they were extremely strong and even with my heaviest test I could never get them to shore, but I believe the bonefish is the hardest lb for lb fighting fish. I did also catch quite a few Barracuda, the locals always told me they were the best tasting fish, but if they were poisoned you could easily end up in the hospital.
