hia, im really worried about Day Day.
came down this morning and he was just lying there, didnt come up for breakfast either, when i turned the lights on he perked up a wee bit,had some food about 2 hours later, i dont think hes happy at all, i always knew he wasnt as outgoing as jambo, but i am worried as he seems to be really quiet,i have tested the water and its spot on, i did a wc yesterday, and honestly dont see why he would have been sulking (if he was) im thinking seriously about taking him back, as its tank isnt in an ideal place either ( at the bottom of the stairs) i really dont want him to be sad, he has a silver dollar for company, which i couldnt catch when the other fish were rehoused so i left him, they seem to get on great, hes happily swimming about at the moment, and has eaten twice today, has nothing to look at to suggest anything is wrong health wise either.
i tell you what tho, i have a bad habit of not turning the light off on the tank, but i made a point of doing it last night, but he was on the floor before the light went back on, would that have been enough to upset him do u reckon??, if so ill have to get a moonlight tube for him i think, but if you can think of anything else i`d be more than willing to give it a go, as hes a beautiful fish and i dont want him to go, but at the same time i dont him to be miserable here either :(

hmm a few options
have you fed him deshelled peas?maybe corked
has anyone crashed into his tank or doe something similar?
maybe hes just stressing, if you say waters fine and done a water change etc
as he is eating i would not be alarmed just yet, and theres no physical signs,

rem i scared the beeheegees out of brutis, he now still is cowering in the corner when i go into room, when iam out in the hall peering round so he cant see me, hes fine....

maybe do this and see if its when your in the area of the tank?

oscars do sometimes chill out on the floor for some conciderable time, this is actually unknown but happens alot, maybe there just lazy, you know the latin saying "manyana"tommorow

whats the water temp at present?

good idea `ill cook some peas now, last had them on thursday i think it was, because of where the tank is its constantly getting raced past, i often look round the corner to see if hes ok, and most of the time he will come to the glass to see me,
OMG i just looked at the temp and its 82, must have turned it as i wiped the control yesterday ive turned it back down now, have fed him a wee bit too and hes eating it and seems ok ( thats ok is it for the temp to go down this much at once? ) gee wizz poor bugger must be hot! shall i put some cold water in or just let it go down overnight, the heatings not on so shouldnt take too long,, oh boy am i glad i asked now!! thanks nelly

the temp has come down to 78 now, so getting there, also i didnt turn the light off last night just incase he dosent like it,he seems a lot happier he had peas too last night, but when i say a lot happier he dosent ever swim about the whole tank like jambo or anything, hes very slow and the least thing will have him lying on the floor again :( mayeb i could consider moving the tank into the lounge, (if i can make room) then the action would be constant rather than a shock to him, he will be near jambo to, so he may encourage him, cant think of anything else,,hes just soo placid and shy,i was thinking another oscar in there, but no, hes bound to get picked on being this shy,so dont think that would work at all, between him and the silver dollar its like nervous wreck city in that tank, and its horrible to see :(.. let me know what you think about moving the tank

You worried about this at the start with day day if I remember right, maybe its time to think about moving him out to a more busy spot if you can fit it in. I think they are naturally shyer than the tiger O's maybe. The SD will be nervous on his own anyway, so unless you wanna up his numbers, might be best to rehome him (buy a bigger net ).

gotta agree it may be best to move him to a constantly 'busier' spot where there is always movement, hes bound to get used to this. but somewhere like the bottom of the stairs where just every now and then someone darts past must scare the crap outta him! ive had the same problem with my turtle, now he's in the living room he's much happier and doesnt get startled half as much

hope you get it sorted chick xxx

goodness me i made that sound easier than it was going to be! do you think i get 4ft of space in this damn room anywhere!! no!! there are 3 tanks in here already and even if i broke down the community one and the krib one, i still couldnt do it, there are 3 door ways ( mega pain) and 4 ,6ft windows... right this is my other option... to bring d-bo and blade downstairs and put day day up stairs, thats a busy area but not so busy as to annoy the hell out of him, the babies would be fine down here as they are ok with both quiet and busy.. i used to wish for more hours in a day now im wishing for more space in my longue :(.. gotta have a think about the best option, cos i dont want to have to move him again, and i will miss him if he goes upstairs,, ill get back to you on this one  thanks for the advice minx and spishkey, at least i know im now aiming in the right direction :)

agreed with the guys, how big is he anyhow?
when oscars get to around 1.5years they are much more chilled then when they were you gannets, darting all over the shop,

as long as hes swimming around normally in upright posistion, waterchanges are kept on top of, and filters regularly maintained it should be ok,,,,
all oscars are different, some are sooo crazy and some sooo liad back the nearly vertical,,,,
about 1yr ago mine would always go crazy round the tank and always try to attack my hand at water chnage time, now they just mull around and dont even look at my hands now

will try one day to do a video of before n now to show the difference age makes

You can only try it, bring the babies downstairs and put dd upstairs and see how he goes. The younger two will take the move better I would suspect.

just to update.. hes swimming about happier than he has ever been ! been chasing the SD too ( never seen that b4) hes begging for food too, and is a diffrent fish---- but i havent done anything apart from turn the heater down  and feed him peas.. hmmm..havent had time to get up to much today, its been a really crap day all round, i have to rehome my kittens as we had a letter from the doctor confirming that my son is infact allergic to both cats and dogs.. really gutted, but not a lot i can do about it, but my daughter is more upset and to even things out she thinks i should rehome Jambo  toooo farrrr girly!!!!!
but im glad he better ( for whatever reason) and heres to a happy future :pepsi:
