These guys frequent my yard because of all my bird feeders. The males are strutting their stuff right now.

The smaller ones are the babies hatched this summer. There are a few flocks around here: a group of males, a group of juveniles which were babies last year, and a group of hens and new babies this year. This time of year they start to merge. Not sure why the male plumage right now... maybe establishing dominance over the new group? I love watching them.

You want to stay on their good side. They're tough birds if you annoy them.

I have a friend who does well with a wild group around his place. They come up onto his deck and just hang around, ignoring people completely.

In my region, we rarely see them, but we have herds of deer and lots of less social, more loner creatures filling the niche.
