my needlenose is being tossed around by my filter as it hits the water and also he is so small he gets sucked up against the filtering pipe. will he get use to it once he gets bigger? thanks in advance
How about covering the inlet (is that the proper term? The pipe sucking water IN) to the filter with nylon stocking or something to ensure that he doesn't get sucked up? And also, I know if you look in the DIY section there are various methods of softening the blow so to speak of the water hitting the tank so it's not as rough. Check that out!

I would think the tossing by the filter water is not as bad as getting stuck to the intake. Find a mesh water safe drum or fabric material and increase the surface area of the suction area (make it bigger), this way the pull will be less so he can escape.
no hes not gonna be sucked up and he can escape eventually, but it is still pulling him in and making him unable to move for a couple of seconds but u know
Sort something out, if he cant cope with the power of the filter outlet and/or is getting sucked into the filter, change the dam filter! One day he'll give up and just get sucked in, which means a dead fish. Now you don't what that do you?
Not necessarily, depending on the size of the tank you could use a hang on filter or position the outlet so the water hits the side of the tank, thus reducing the flow created. And of course put something over the intake to stop him getting sucked in!
