hi folks my mate gave me two uarus that were being nailed by his arowana, so i have them, at the moment they are about 5-6 inches long but they cant stay long term as they'll get too big, I want to take them into the lfs for credit or something but dont know what to expect for them, I think my mate bought them for £50 for the pair, should I expect that back or slightly less?

I know they are quite rare to find so I dont want to be diddled.

Some LFS will give you next to nothing, others quite a lot, it mainly depends on the place.

Some LFS work their prices out thus;
double the price they pay, + 17.5% VAT;
So if they buy their neons @ 70 pence each they double it =£1.40 and add their 17.5% VAT =£1.64 you pay
If they buy 50 neons and 5 die they add the cost of the 5 neons they lost, divide this between the 45 neons they have left to get their money back on their losses. So your neons work out @ £1.82 pence each you pay

I would expect to get £20.62 credit

Obviously these figures aren't made in stone and stores differ and if they buy lots of fish they get them cheaper and can pass this savings on to their customers!

Edit; because you aren't a buisness and therefore dont pay VAT £17.00 would be a fair price

Timmystood, (where does the stood come from) might be good to answer this question! Or anyone else who works in the trade

2 uaru at 5 - 6 inches if you take them to a lfs you would be lucky to get £10 may be £15.
if they are a breeding pair advertise them and you could get double that.
i think £50 is a bit steep.
even though the uaru in some places can be classed as a rare and sought after fish a lfs owner/manager will see you as some one with un wanted fish and kind of who is doing who a favour.

hmm, cheers for the replies folks, yeah they are a breeding pair I think, they go about next to each other the whole time, my mate bought them for £50 si I was not expecting to get that but, the lfs I sometimes go to is a bit of a tight fisted g*t if you catch my drift lol.

cheers though I'll maybe phone a couple of them and go with the best offer, I am not to o fussed as long as I get a few more tiger barbs and something else I'll be cool with that.

Right I phoned one lfs and the cheeky bugger wanted them for nothing :huh: , I was like yeah right then.

:good:

yea depends where you go, one guy i used to buy off all the time it ook back this angel that i baught off him for $15, he gave me $5 for it n it was 3 times the size. another guy all the way over the other side of town, took him a 7in salmon tailed catfish, didnt even buy it off him, and he traded for the price he was selling his, tho he does do a gd buisness out of me n my other half we get discounts all the time :shifty: hehehe. :)

am not wanting much for them like but guaranteed he would sell them on for at least £35 - £40, nevermind.

cant get a much bigger tank so still wouldn't be big enough for them
