Need To Move A Tank

i need to move a fish tank which is far to big and heavy for me to do on my own and i have no-one i can ask to help.
any ideas on how this might be done without having to try and find people to help?

What size are we talking about?

it's a 54"x18"x24" in either 10 or 12mm glass. i will have to take everything out of it but it's a cold water set up so that's not a problem and i only need to move it a few feet.

Thats a pretty big tank, about 380 litres roughly according to your measurements.
 
Very doubtful you can move the tank by yourself, even when empty of everything.
 
I have a 350 litre tank in garage, I definitely could not move that by myself, had to get a friend to help lift it and move it.
(and I am not exactly a 6 stone weakling!

Your best bet, is to empty the entire tank, and you'll have to ask a friend or neighbour to help move it, should be straightforward since only a few feet presumably in same room. 
 
I fear, if you try to move it yourself by dragging it on cabinet or stand you will do yourself an injury of strained muscles or worse, or cause damage to the tank.
Always better safe than sorry, please try and get someone to help you, ask nicely, beg, plead or bribe with cups of tea should do the trick.

PMSL, that sounds like the perfect solution but i'd be too feert to open the door when they got here.
i had thought of going to the local gym and advertising a weight lifting comp for body builders

What I usually do is ask my girlfriend to go downstairs and ask for help.
100% of the time she comes back with someone to help. 90% of the time it's a man.

I would suggest empty all the water out and buy those mover sliders and place them under the stand and push....
