Need Stocking Help For My 10-gallon (with Rasboras & Betta)

Hi everyone,

My 10-gallon has three rasboras and one female betta. The fish get along, it's just that my betta looks stressed. She was that way before I put her in the bigger tank w/the rasboras, but now she looks a bit more pale.

A few questions:

1. Would adding three more rasboras improve the tank relationship so that not only my rasboras will be happy, but my betta may be less stressed as well?
2. Is there enough room to add another fish inaddition to the 6 rasboras and 1 betta. . .basically a fish that gets along with those fish but will be happy ALONE (as in not being a schooling fish)? Any recommendations?

(I want to return the rasboras to the LFS, but my husband said that those are his favorite of all the fish)

Maybe your betta would prefer life alone, i know one of my boys refuses to have anything in his tank and gets severley stressed if he isn't alone. Bettas are naturally solitary creatures, maybe you could get her a 5gallon of her own and use the 10g as a rasboras tank with a few male guppies of sorts.

Maybe your betta would prefer life alone, i know one of my boys refuses to have anything in his tank and gets severley stressed if he isn't alone. Bettas are naturally solitary creatures, maybe you could get her a 5gallon of her own and use the 10g as a rasboras tank with a few male guppies of sorts.

In an ideal world, I would move her to her own 5-gallon and have this problem solved. As it stands now, my husband flat out said no more tanks so I have to work with what I have (he's put up with this hobby and tried to be supportive, but I know it's driving him nuts). Last night I was watching on-line videos of rasboras in schooling communities and they look so cool that way. . .makes me wish more than ever I could get another tank!

Okay, I just posted over there too.

Right now the tank has silk plants. I guess I'll hunt around for a tall (live) plant and an almond leaf. Even though live plants are popular, I still wanted to wait until I got the hang of caring for fish before taking on caring for plants as well. Out of my four tanks, only one has real plants in it and the tank is small so there are only four or five little living plants.

even more silk plants will do, that dont matter, as long as there is more shelter, like caves etc. I would highly reccomend indian almond leaf though.

Yep, I just found some and will get them this week. I'm going to add a bit to all three betta tanks. I worry though about the brown water Is it going to be really bad and gross looking?
