If possible, open the bags up so they can get some fresh oxygen as well.

No don't open the bags up. The pressure of the water will squash the bags and the fish will suffocate...

I always do this with fish, and have never had problems, , i make sure that i pull the bag up high enough so the water levels are equal and open the bag up to get fresh air in there.

perhaps it's just really stressed? was it doing it in the store? if it wasnt id guess stress but dont take my judgement to heart im usually wrong

Well you were right it appears to have just been stress because its not doing it now and may put it in the 55g today.
