I have no idea when it comes to starter units and tubes. My current tank came with everything so I didn't need to worry about that however I just got a second hand tank today but the starter unit is broken so I'm going to have to get a new one as well as new tubes as that probably needs replacing too. The tank holds 33 Gallons (124 litres) and the length inside the hood is 35 inches, what size tubes should I get? The ones I've chosen are Hagen Aqua-Glo 30 inch 25 watt, I'll be getting two with a double starter unit. Will that be ok for my size tank? Or are they too big? Also does the starter unit have to match the exact watt the tubes are? ie if i get a 30W Double Starter Unit can I use the 25W tubes I mentioned above?

Here are the links to the starter unit and tubes I was thinking of getting...

Hagen Glomat Double Starter Unit 30w: http://www.aquatics-online.co.uk/catalogue...ntrol-units.asp
Hagen Aqua-Glo Fluorescent Tubes 30 inch 25 watt (x2): http://www.aquatics-online.co.uk/catalogue...scent-tubes.asp

Thanks!

Anyone know? I'm going out today to get one one so any help would be appreciated, I don't want to end up getting the wrong one.

Your thinking is sound... and yes, you can run a 25W tube on 30W gear ! Dont forget to try prices at an electrical wholesalers as well as the LFS (where they charge waaay too much ! LOL :))

Thanks for the advice but I've already bought it since no one replied.
