need Japanese Translated

i no there r some japanese people here or just people who can read it who may be able to help. my dad needs some stuff on his WW2 Katana translated.

this should be something about the date it was made

And yup, the first picture is about the date.

Showa-jidai lasted between 1926 - 1989. So if we add 25years back, we will have the year in AD.

In the pic, it said: Showa year 20, May. So it should be made in May, 1945.

Second pic wrote: 廣光, which should be something like Hirohikari

that aint katakana...thats kanji... i had a kanji test at school today... didnt do too good...

Obviously the beautiful Miss Feline has the advantage over me when it comes to reading the kanji but I read the first one as : 昭和二十八年五月(Showa 28 nen 5 gatsu) which would be May 1953 but please correct me and explain why if I am incorrect.

Moe_1: the word used was Katana which is a type of sword. Not katakana which is the writing like this: コニチワ　or hiragana : こにちは　like that.

I just look up 廣光 in the dictionary and I've decided to put the two words together to form hirohikaru (doh! ) ) , so I think Hiromitsu should be the right one!

I read the first one as : 昭和二十八年五月(Showa 28 nen 5 gatsu)

I thought the "八" and "年" were too close together to be seperate kanji, because other kanji had similar spacing and size...

Although how the maker wrote "年" is somehow not right ...

Is that a samurai's sword? According to my friend, a samurai's sword is called Nihonto (日本刀), and a ordinary sword is katana (刀)
