I have a 50 gallon All-Glass Aquarium (from craigslist, with stand). Came with new in box Versa top. Top fits fine.
I bought an Aqueon Quiet Flow 55 - 75 filter. Now comes the problem. I have no room for the plastic strip at the back of the canopy PLUS, water splashes over the top of the glass, from the filter. So I have to pull the glass canopy forward a bit to avoid this. And since the plastic strip is off, there is a long gap of about 2 inches across most of the back. I don't want to start cutting in to the plastic strip for the filter and heater cut outs until I know how I am going to work the glass part of the set up.
Once I sort out the water overflow issue, then I will have to cut the plastic strip in 2, as there is no room for any of it in the section where the filter sits. One part will run from the edge of the filter to the end of the aquarium. The other part -- the longer part -- will run from the edge of the filter to the end of the aquarium with a small cut out for the heater. At least, this is how I think it will work.
Do I just need to fill the water higher in the tank, so that the flow is not splashing over the top? I thought having extra filtration was the way to go, but now I've got this problem.
Ideas on how to make this work, please?
