Thanks oldman ive just looked at the ready to pop pic'c and mine are ready to pop lol, thanks for the picture me and the kid's have made a breeding net for the young and put the 2 platty's in there together so the other fish dont eat the young fry thanks for the infoIf the female is actively giving birth, you will see a fry drop from her at least every 10 minutes. Quite often the interval is even shorter.
ok just takin the least fat fish out and put some pebbles and a little weed in at the bottom, first thing in the morning ill nip down the local aquarium shop and buy another brood net and some cover weed thanks again for your adviceThe only fish in the breeding net should be the female giving birth. Any other fish in there are strictly a source of predation. If you can manage it, you should put something bushy into the net with the female so the fry can hide from her. Even a small handful of marbles would give the fry a place to hide so they don't get eaten right after birth. They will be small enough to swim into the small spaces between the marbles. I use a thing called java moss in most of my tanks to save fry that I want. This green mass is java moss. There is even an adult Heterandria formosa that is swimming around in the top left of the picture.
