need help

Hi guys,

I just bought some riccia and received it today in the mail. But...it smells fishy...real fishy, like bad fish or may even mildewish. I put some in one tank but now i'm wondering if it could hurt my fish. I have the rest in a bowl and i've been trying to rinse it which is real hard with riccia. What should i do?

Whats the stuff for never heard of it, are the fish acting differently to normal.

riccia is a floating plant that can be tied down to create a carpet. The fish are n't acting differently but i only put it in about a 1/2 hour ago

Right, test water just to make sure, and if fish are not acting out of charactor nothing to worry about at this stage, though did you sterlise it as adding plants can fetch parasites into the tank.

besides rinsing it in unconditioned water I did not sterilize it. how do you sterilize plants?

Not sure really, some fishkeepers use a mild solution of bleach ask in the plant section, good luck.

Thanks wilder. I've heard of the bleach thing before but it just makes me nervous so I usually don't bother.

Thats the only thing if you over do it with the bleach it kills the plants, probably find your answers to plants in the plants section of the forum, good luck, no nothing at all on plants.
