Hi, please help! I woke up this morning and found my fish like this!

Usually some times it goes crazy and starts hitting the fish tank, like smashing into it so hard that water goes everywhere, I found this unusual mark on its head, could that be why its acting the way it is? What do I do to get it swimming again?

What has happen to it? also what kind of fish is it? and whats it called? and whats the life expentancy of it? is this natural? Weve had it before I was born and im 22 yers old! If it dies I dont know what I'll do.

PLEASE HELP ME!

The splashing about, bashing into the tank and such would indicate to me the tank it's in is too small and it's stressing out.
My presumption anyway.
Do you have any pictures of tank and fish?
How many litres is the tank?

I can't verify what it is from the pictures, perhaps another member can and we can help more then.

This is going to just be guessing here. It looks like a carp to me, ghost koi maybe, I cant tell really from the pics. Crashing round the tank is usually a sign of high ammonia, burning and irritating the fish, from the look of the pic the gills look a little inflamed. Do a water change straight away, 50% then test the water, if there is still a high amount of ammonia change some more until its 0. Add an airline to the tank to help the fish to breath and cover with a large towel/blanket to calm the fish down, this will also hopefully send it into a "sleep" mode. The mark on the head looks like it has damaged itself thrashing about, not the major worry at the moment. If the water quality is fine then its possibly some environmental poisoning, gas.aerosol.

Huh? another uncycled tank? well you should rehome his tankmates and cycle the tank.

I'm a little confused, you say had this fish before you were born and you are 22 years old now and you do not know what kind of fish it is?

Is it a fish your parents bought a long time ago and was in a pond or something before?

Some explanation will go a long way to help us determine what is the best advice we can offer.

So some basic questions first.

What size is the tank your fish is in?
Is the tank cycled?
How big is your fish now?
Do you do daily water changes?
Is there any other fish in the same tank?

Then explain what history you have with this fish and the tank etc

We wil help the best we can but we are not mind readers so we cannot immediately answer questions before we have some information.
