Welcome to the real world....I've got the same predicament.... Either move to where the fish are available or scale down on both your enthusiasm and stocks.....My local "Pet shop" is absolutely ignorant on fish and thinks Guppies are the only viable fish to keep. I have to go to Pretoria or Johannesburg (some 300km) away to replenish my stocks.... so make every trip count and go for speciffically what you want.

And if things get bad or you have the extra money.. Maybe you could order from shops that ship?

hmm, where abouts are you based?? there are a number of good online stores

It would also be good to know what kind of fish you are looking for. I would assume N.W./South American Cichlids though.

You can try:

www.TFDfish.com (looks like they have a few black water species and more)
www.petsolutions.com
www.aquabid.com
www.aquariumfish.net
www.drsfostersmith.com (can't remember if they sell fish or just supplies)

They're all american sites mate, he's from the United Kingdom.

There are loads of shops near Watford. Okay, heres the ones I use:

Maidenhead Aquatics - Chipperfield. About 10 minutes drive from Hempstead Road, inside the Wyevale Garden Centre.
Maidenhead Aquatics - St Albans. Just of the A414, on the stretch of dual carriageway just after the roundabout where you get on the M10.
Pets@Home - Hemel. If you come off the A41, down to the traffic lights where the Citroen garage is - turn right there, and its 100 yards along on the right.

Going a bit further afield, the best specimens I've found (and with a pretty good range) are Wildwoods in Crews Hill, Enfield. You need a car to get there and they're pricy but worth it. Depending on traffic, thats about 25 minutes drive from the ring road.

Theres also World of Water at the bottom of the Hempstead Road, but I steer clear of there - whenever I've been in there theres always alot of dead fish in their tanks.
