Hi all, I am having a problem with my newly planted plants. I am not sure of the types of plants they are, but I believe it is wisteria and Amazon swords. The Amazon swords are doing beautifully well, but my wisteria's leaves keep browning and developing holes in them and end up falling off. I just planted them about 2 weeks ago. I read that this browning could be caused because of low iron? I used API Leaf Zone last Sunday and yesterday and I just started to use Aqueon Plant food last Friday because I thought the wisteria need more than just the API Leaf Zone. All the plants and liquid fertilizers were purchased from Petsmart. Thank you for any advice in advance. :)

The wisteria leaves:

Another member passed this link to me, and I still refer to it when caring for my plants.

Hope this helps!:)

Looks to me like your wisteria is just "changing form."

Basically, wisteria has an "above the water" type of leaf and a "below the water" type of leaf. It is my understanding that lots of large-scale growers like to grow their aquatic plant "emersed," or out of the water (as opposed to "immersed," which is underwater). At the very least, it keeps the snails to a minimum, so I get it.

But, when you do that, and then you buy it and take it home and dunk it in your fish tank, sometimes there are some changes that the plant needs to go through to function happilly in it's new environment. What you're seeing now is that change.

You can see that there are some leaves on the plant that look a little more "lacey" or serated? Neither of those is the right word exactly, but it's not the rouded leaf shape that all of they dying leaves have, right? Yeah, so those rounded leaves are the "emersed" out-of-the-water leaves. They're all going to go away in favor of the prettier (IMHO) immersed, underwater leaves. I guess the round ones don't work as well underwater or something. But the point is, you don't need to worry. This is perfectly normal. It's just your plant adapting to a new, wetter environment.

Thanks so much Teephphah. You explained that beautifully and now I am much more understanding of what is happening to my plant. Also thanks to Steve H for the link with the diagram now I know what to look for in my other plants and how to help them. Thank you guys so much for your help.

Teephphah covered that nicely. A lot of plants "melt" at first and then do some lovely things afterwards, start removing the dying yellow leaves when you see them, they will produce extra ammonia.

Lovely Betta tank! I always feel joy in my heart when I see a betta in a proper home :D

Just a little melting, annoying but your wisteria will look great in a week or two

Thanks so much FishFanatic04. Yes that little Betta is spoiled (He's my favorite ;)) He's also a rescue and I'm glad he's mine, he gives me joy every day haha.

Here's a pic of him up close:
