Hey all, I've been having problems with my tank for awhile now. We kinda came to the conclusion that it was fin rot, so i syphoned the gravel along with my water change regime and added the fin rot medication. Originally I had 5 Balloon mollies, 5 guppies, 3 cherry barbs (all females) 4 shrimp and 2 clams. Every single one of the mollies are dead, 2 of the guppes have some damage to thier fins, but otherwise fine. All of the dead fish have looked more or less like this:

mollie pic1

mollie pic2

I have no idea what this is, they are even missing eyes! Please anybody, any help you be appreciated. Had the water tested and it's fine.

Those 2 dead fish look like they were attacked, rather than ill. Unless they were pecked at, after they died but to have finrot as bad as that, taking it right down to the stubs, means they've had it for a while (a good 2 weeks i would say).

What are your current water stats?

pH
Temp
Ammonia
Nitrate
Nitrite

They must have been pecked at after death as surely if they got that bad when alive you would have noticed?

I found him like that, he was fine when i left him before i went to bed. He had a little damage to his back fin, very, very minor. Then woke up this morning to find him like this. Any idea what to do? The tank got treated for fin rot 4 days ago, so i dont see how it can be that, and i dont think fin rot can do something that drastic that fast?

I took some of my tank water to a local shop to get it tested 4 days ago, the guy told me all was fine, cept my nitrate was a little high so to go home and syphon the gravel and do a 20% water change before i put in the fin rot treatment, which i did. Temps 25 degrees celsius.

fin rot can progress very rapidly but generally doesnt outrightly kill the fish. all the tankmates seem peaceful toward each other. why did you add finrot meds in the first place? becasue the mollies were slightly damaged or were there other fish with finrot symptoms? how are the other fish now? any signs of eroding fins, pinholes in the fisn, chunks missing?
keep up with the waterchanges, lower temp a degree or so, and feed sparingly.
keep us posted.
cheers

Since the last of the Ballon Mollies died the Guppies fins are recovering and growing back. I added fin rot meds in the first place because i got told it sounds like fin rot from my LFS!!!! But since no more mollies the guppies are now recovering, strange because I've read that they are compatible?!
