Been at it a year so I don't know if I'm still a beginner, but this is a stocking question so I thought I'd post here.
A good friend recently gave me a beautiful stand for a 10 gallon tank. I had been planning on using it as a fry grow out tank because I only have two five gallon tanks for the purpose and they are too small (one is housing 8 platy fry now, one is currently home to a betta) However, the more I look at my 29 gallon tank, the more I think I'm going to have a problem. I am overstocked, and I need to take care of the fish I already have before I worry about fry.
Here is what I have in the 29 gallon.
4 gold barbs
5 black longfin tetras
4 neons
8 platies (three juvenile, 5 full grown)
3 mollies (two juvenile, 1 full grown)
1 apple snail
1 otto
Here is what I's like spread out over the 29 and 10 gallon tank:
4 gold barbs
5 black longfins
5-6 neons
6 or so platies (2 males)
3-4 mollies (1 male)
1 apple snail in each tank
4-5 ottos in 29 gallon, 2 in 10 gallon
Is this doable, or is it still too may fish?
Keep in mind I may want some room for growing fry, although I don't plan to keep any - the lfs will take them, but not until they are an inch.
I was thinking the platys in the ten gallon with the ottos and snail (don't know if six is too many) And the rest in the 29 gallon.
What do people think?
