Need Help Identifying A Fish In Store.

Evening all,
Saw a fish the other day which I didn't recognise. Very unusual for me, so I asked the clerk.
He didn't know either.
I've been trying to research it myself, but without a name, it's quite hard.

Basically, the fish looks almost exactly the same as a penguin tetra, but missing the "hockey stick" ending, as in, it's just a straight line. The mouth is slightly upturned, making me think it's a type of rasbora perhaps, but no way to be sure.

I'm not allowed to take pictures of it apparently, as for legal issues with the store. (yeahuh..)..

Any ideas kids?

Edit: if this helps, imagine a Siamese algae eater with an upturned mouth...ish..

Maybe its a species of Pencilfish? Beckfordi Pencilfish?

Very similar, but a tad longer, perhaps about 7cm or so.
No other colours apart from this black line in the middle.
Short slender fins, as if built for fast streams.

I'm afraid not, plumper.
Add 5mm to that in all dimensions.
Head was more rounded, common rasbora/danio shape.

Sounds to me like it could possibly be the Rasbora einthovenii? Research them and let me know? I'm afraid I don't own a pic to post

Again, very very close but not a match.

If you removed the gold strip from Carlove's picture, it's almost spot on.

I doubt its any of those, the top one has gold and the bottom one only reaches 5.5cm.

Could it be a Pencil Fish with bad breeding? So the colours and marking aren't all there!

Could it be some kind of annostomus? Not all of them have the yellow markings there are even spotty ones. Did it rest at a 45% degree angle, it could be a juvennile waiting to colour up?
