ok, i bought some female bettas today, 3. i introduced them in tank....blablabla. anyway, i think one of them may be a male :S she seems to be flairing her gills at all the other females and her fins are different to all the other females i have seen. any ideas? i have a video but not sure how to put on here? thanks

Females also flare and build bubble nests, they will establish a pecking order amoungst them by displaying. The way to tell a female is the oviposior- a white dot/small tube between the ventral fins. I recently got some females and some turned out to be male. Keep a close eye on them and be prepared if you have to rehouse some that turn out to be male! There are some good threads on the betta forum on how to tell the difference with pictures, good luck.

males also can have thw white dot.The way i normaly tell is that the malesflare is much bigger and twhen they do flare the gill plate is Much bigger. Try showing it a mirrow and see what it does.

Yes....when my little girls were bitching yesterday one of them was flaring! But, the frill didnt go under her chin, just round the sides.(can you tell I dont know the technical terms?) When a real boy flares like my Obi it goes all the way round....like this...
