well lets see, id like to upgrade to t5s (currentlt t8 so tank is low ligh at the mo) but unitl then

what light reqs for amazon and argentinian and melon swords?

if i replace the t8s with t5s what would the lighting be??? (55gallon)

and would these plants work?? i got themout of a book to help me out (The 101 best aquarium plants) by Mary E. Sweeney

Anubias Barteri (out of substrate right? can it go on say... rocks?) ie. anubais

Cladophora aegagrophila ie. marimo balls , tribbles

Cryptocoryne lingua ie. lingua

Cryptocoryne parva ie. parva

Cryptocoryne pontderifolia ie. heart-leaf crypt

Fissidens fontanus ie. pheonix moss

limnobium laevigatum ie. frogbit

and could it be possible i was mis-sold Echinodorus parviflorus from E. bleheri??

also any other suggestions?

sorry for all the scientific names but i want to be sure i know what im asking about

im going to try to avoid commenting about my invisable advice and just say why im the only one that it takes days to get a reply??? imo i know sometimes there just no answer but ive put a farbit of info already, more than the average first post and still nothing yet this manages to get passed by 6-7 other threads :/

im trying not to sound mean or anything im just wondering whyy?

When increasing light, you have to think about increasing CO2, nutrients and water circulation. Also water change regimes etc.

Any. As little as one t8 tube spanning the length of the tank. There are no "high light" plants. Just plants that need more CO2 and more nutrients. "high light" plants can grow in low light conditions as long as appropriate Co2 and nutrients are given.

We dont know the wattage or anything.
Light would be more intense. Plants would demand more CO2 and nutrients. More work involved.

thanks :)

curently i crunched the #s to .65 watts per gallon, ive got the equivalent of 36% of the amount of CO2 i should have for a 55 gallon, its a DIY rated for a 20 which is where i got the % from

i dose KENT marine proseries pro-plant about 22.5 ml three times a week at random with lights going for 12 hours

anything i should do??

tanks gonna be overstocked btw

and yeah upoun reading moeof the book the other says the same thing as well :good:

i think some ofmychain swords are stillalive.. howcan i keep them in the substrate tillthey root themselves so my catfish doesnt go uproot crazy on me again LOL

The plants you are proposing are all low light plants, plus that the crypts and swords are mostly root feeders. I think if you get yourself fertiliser root tablets to put under the crypts and the swords you will be able to grow these without CO2. You have chosen fairly easy plants. Try to grow these first before you try a CO2 set up. I have a 180 litre tank with 2 15 W at the moment, which makes .65WpG and I am growing crypts, sagittaria, swords, anubias and even some stem plants successfully.

yes i know they are all low light plants, hence me getting a book to helpme out on what plants would be suitable for my tank which is low light, however im also being told that with enough CO2 and ferts i can keep any plant  but i want to go easy for a bit :D

i already have CO2 and the plants do much better with it than without

I think you can put little weights on the plants, they normally use circular ones to weight them down.

Anything below 1.5WPG can be a low tech tank generally.

not so sure about this kent marine nutrients stuff though?

With 0.65WPG I wouldn't dose any CO2 then. Just dont do water changes instead. If you still want to do water changes, then gas off the Co2 in the tap water by running an airstone in a bucket of tapwater before adding to the tank.
The KENT marine proseries pro-plant is mainly a trace element but does contain nitrogen. This combined with a moderatly stocked tank should provide enough nutrients.

thanks for the info everyone! tbh though im still going to run the CO2 as the plants grew quite fast with it and started to die without it. ill dose the KENT stuff on mondays wednesdays and fridays, and obviously get more plants and fish, next on mylist is 4 more otos

yes and sorry for the mini rant up top  i forgot that the older members in general arent too keen on answering the same things over and over again, everyone is to an extent on allparts of the forum and i do it myself as well, so sorry for being a bit narcistic im just not used to waiting days for a reply, though i admit they are informative  and this thread was alot faster than past expierience

does it matter how much CO2 i use?? im guessing to simply not over do it for the size tank as i was considering getting another DIY kit

The thing is with diy is that it's unstable and for a tank your size, it's not gonna male a deal of difference. I used diy on my 50g along with easycarbo and since using pressurised I have noticed that the diy wasn't doing much, it ws actually the easycarbo. If ya not gonna go with pressurised, then I would just dose rather than diy.

what is easycarbo and how can i get some? im in US so idk if that is available here...

Sorry, I forget America is so behind the times ; )
