I got some Panda Cory's the other day, but I am looking to get rid of them as they don't school tight enough for my liking. They are so scattered across the tank.

Are there any that are known to school well?

I want them basically touching each other, it looks much better.

Sounds like they are quite happy in your tank then, schooling closely is a threat response. I don't think you'll ever get any species to do that all the time.

Corys are not "schooling" species. They are just social species that like to be in bigger numbers to feel confident. From the one's I've had the pygmy corys and sterbai corys spend more time swimming together compared to the others but they still won't "school" tightly.

Yes, that's the difference between schooling and shoaling.

I have 20+ Loxozonus that all swim up and down together, as do my 24ish Peppered's.

Im also looking for a school of Panda's :D

Someone else told me Sterbai stay close too, but they are too expensive

How long have you had the Panda's and how many?  What else do you have in the tank with them?

I find that sometimes my Panda's are together, then at other times they chill alone, I find this with most of my Cory's, such busy little bees they all are.

Loxozonus look like a cool Cory.  My favourites are the Adolfoi, just wish they were not so expensive.

You may get yourself some Panda's if Colonel Dibble gives up on them and you are near by

My panda cory's sometimes keep close together. Other times they just do their own thing. They are a very social fish. They're great to see when they stick close together and move together. They only do that now and again though and if you only got them the other day then maybe they need a bit longer to settle. You should see lots of different behaviour from them. They are really entertaining little fish.

At the end of the day, the way I see it is, you can 'want' them to do lots of things but they are fish. They will do as they please. I feel getting shot of them after only a couple of days isn't very fair on these lovely little fish. Give them a chance.

As The Lock Man said : Be glad they feel at ease. The only Cory that will really stay closely are skittish ones (Got some Emeralds that do : up and over each other when someones come near to the tank). Enjoy their natural behaviour though it may not be what you like. I have 13 panda's cruising the tank in little groups. So do my 8 Paleatus. My Habrosus are sometimes alone, sometimes together bu never shoaling. It's nature on it's best !!!

Ahh okay, fair enough. Thanks for all the information peeps.

I think what I will do is just add 2 more, and see what happens, I have 6 at the moment, a few male apistogrammas. Some cardinals and some Hatchets, nothing much that'll bother them, maybe that's why they are so happy.
