hey sunniesunn try flicking them with a spoon (the was that r curled up) not to hard but it does the trick for me dont be scared to try it i do it all the time sometimes they r going to die if they stay curled up because they have to oxygen try it with one of them i'm sure it will work.

GOOD LUCK

Ok got up this morning and mommy fish that gave birth yesturday had passed away I had put her back in the main tank last night when she was done giving birth.Well now I can'nt get the fry to eat and alot of them are staying buried in the gravel only 1 or 2 are swimming around is this normal?

I have had a lot of unopened eggs/embrios with my swordies, they are usually from my female that gives birth to about 100 at a pop. Not all of the fry are fully developed when it comes time if it is a large/older female. Are you using a net or a plastic trap? Moving the Mommy at the time of birthing can stress them. Putting them first in a net or trap and then moving them to a fast cycle tank will cause more stress. I have only a plastic trap and my Yoyos would just suck the fry through the grills so I put a nylon hose over the trap to stop the little buggers from sucking them out. I was very concerned the first few times my girls gave birth but since they birth every 35-50 days you should have a lot of time to get a feel for what to do. The first few times are quite the adventure, but I am sure you will find a way to get them to survive. I just made my first sale of 15 swordie juveniles to one of my LFS for about $21.50 USD(150 swedish crowns). :D

when my platy first gave birth a good number of the fry stayed on the bottom, but after awhile they perked up and started swimming around a week later all are happy and swimming around. i lost a few though but i still have 7 or 8 left.

thats interesting that the fry already have color in them, they normally dont :hyper:

anyway, next time you think shes about to give birth, thers is no need what so ever to place her in the breeder net

1 - its stressful and she can abort the pregnancy
2 - if you provide many floating plants bunched together the fry will survive long enough for you to net them up and place them in your 5 gallon tank

well unfortuntly she won't be giving birth again she passed the next morning ... :-( butt her little fry are slowly coming out of there hiding spaces and showing off they all have alot of color on them i've counted 12 still alive .......

The reason might have been because you placed her in the fry breeding net, as i said above in my post, if you move them near birth, they will become VERY stressed and abort giving birth or in your case, death.

Thats good you have 12 fry, remember to feed them finley crushed whatever it may be 3 times a day and soon youll have healthy fish!
