Hi ok here's the thing walked past the fish tank and my new platy that is in the breeding net has started giving birth 7 so far cute little yellow things ok the stupid tiger barbs that are in there are attacking the net and i keep moving them away but they keep coming back for more should i run to walmart and get a little 2.5 gallon tank and set it up real quick for my new fry or just wait and see and how long will she be giving birth I have to leave for about 30 mins and I dont won't her to start eating the cute little guys ahhh so much to do somebody help me please thanks sunnie

oh yeah this has all been going on for about 30 mins now and i relly want some of my cute little yellow guys to survive sorry im so hyper ive been drinking the coffee a little to much this morning..sunnie :D :D

 That 2.5 gallon will be fine for the fry, hope the tiger barbs don't get them for there dinner.

Either way though the barbs won't be able to get at the fry as long as they're in the net...Moving new born fry straight after they have been born will be stressful for them, i would wait for about 6hrs and see if the barbs lose interest which if they have any intelligence will realise that their effort is in vain...I would just put some plant peices in the net filling it 40% up with them so the barbs won't be able to see the fry.

Give the other fish an extra feeding to keep their cravings down. Let the fry be in the net for a couple of days and get a growout tank set up properly. Do not get hasty since you will be getting a new batch of fry in about another month or so. I have a 14.25 gal growout with 200 fry in it. I had to let the batch born today fend for them selves in the main tank since I ran out of room to house a new batch. Sadly none of them survived the other hungry piggies got them all. :-( On the other hand in 35 days or so the Mommy will be having another 100 or so.

well i rushed to walmart and got a 5 gallon tank and set it up with some gravel and water from the other tank and i waited about 2 hrs and transfered mom &fry to the new tank she is still giving birth right now so hopefully this will work out cause if they had stayed in the other tank much longer the barbs would have had them all they were sucking thier tails thru the net and just leaving there heads such a sad site if you have anymore suggestions please tell i need all the help i can get.....sunnie :S

after the mum has finished giving birth you should get her out of the tank you have just put her in and put her back in the breeding net just to see if there are anymore little fry to come after about an hour or 2 you can gently put her in the tank she might hide behind somthing that will cover her because the other fish might stress her abit they should stop after a while and she will be fine

ok why are some little fry bouncing around and some are just laying there did i kill them or are just tired already aahhhhh so much to learn ....... :-(

HOW MANY OF THE LITTLE
GUYS?

IS SHE STILL GOING? WHAT COLOUR ARE THEY?

HAVE YOU PUT PLANTS IN THAT NEW TANK YOU GOT?

TELL ME WHEN SHES DONE!

ARE SOME OF THEM STILL ROLLED UP?
IF THEY ARE THEY WILL OPEN UP VERY SOON I KNOW THIS BECAUSE THEY ARE THE SAME WITH GUPPIES AND I JUST HAD 28 OF THEM!

THEY WILL DO FINE

ive counted about 17 so far and she is still huge and going really fast up and down the tank so i don't think she is done yet the mom is black on top and a bright yellow on bottom some of the fry are like her and some are solid yellow and some have black dots on them

oh yea i added a couple bushy lookin plants for them to hide in and a few med sized rocks ...alot of them are still rolled up so hopefully all turns out good

WHEN I HAD MY FRY SHE STARTED ABOUT 10:30PM AND THEN I WENT 2 BED I WOKE UP RUN TO MY TANK AND THERE WAS 38 BUT SOME OF THEM HAD DIED :byebye: :-(
I HOPE NONE OF YOURS DIE IS THS YOUR VERY FIRST BATCH OF FRY?

well the first batch ive seen i had 3 platies give birth last week and the dumb tiger barbs went to town on all of them so i hope i didn't move them to soon and they will survive im going crazy waiting and watching the tank :hyper:

have you got any fry food for them ?

if not go to the local pet store and buy tetra bits or frozen brine shrimp or you can feed them on crumbled flake:)
