I think BIGMAC that something killed off you bacteria. The most common cause of this is chlorine and meds and occasionally other additives although i have never heard of ammo lock dong this. I had this happen when i forgot to put in the dechlorinator on a major water change. I put in other chemicals but forgot the dechlorinator...How stunned was that Anyway the bacteria has been wiped out otherwise you would not be seeing that level of ammonia in the tank. So i think if you can identify what killed of the bacteria you will be able to hopefully avoid this in the future. For now you must treat this as if you are cycling the tank and watch your levels carefully and remember to keep them down to levels your fish cn deal with without becoming stressed. I see many water changes in your future and one big one to start it off. Also before you start test the tap water to ensure nothing has altered its chemisitry. Good Luck
Thanx everyone for taking the time to reply and give advice i have had to start recycling the tank went to the lfs and baught some extre stress zyme to add more good bacteria and am keeping an eye on the water perams doing small water changes when they get too high,so far no dead fish in last 2 days.
Thanx again everyone.
SUE
Still having problems with this tank, the only good thing is that i have not lost any more fish, the bad news is my levels are still high and my water has clouded today.I have been doing lots of water changes and adding stress zyme and dechlorinater each water change, the lfs told me to not go by the instructions on the bottle of stress zyme but to add it every day so the tank would cycle quicker since there are fish in there,i am a little unsure about this advice though
I am trying really hard to get this tank sorted but it just aint getting any better i have not had this problem with any other tank,so do i just carry on as i am or do i need to do something else?
Thanx Sue
Hey everything looks good to me BIGMAC You have been cycling for 6 days and you now have the bacteria bloom which will last a few days at least then you should start to see some movement on those readings. What are your readings by the way? But to put you at ease (i Hope) everything looks fine and we can confirm that with your readings. See Ya
