Hey everyone Im pretty new when it comes to fish tanks. I currently have a 20 gal fish tank with fake plants in it. I have about 13 fish in there. I know its overstocked I just got a little fish crazy anyways My question is what is the best way to get started to convert my tank into all live plants. From plants to substrate to lighting to filter everything. I wanna do it right and I need some help without making me broke. Thanks

What kind of substrate do you have in your 20 gal tank with the 13 fishes?
Also what kind of fish do you have in your tank?
Some fish uproot or munch on plants.

Most plants don't mid growing in whatever substrates, pea gravel and sand is fine for most stem plants.

I would suggest low tech plants like java ferns, java mod, anubias, elodea, crypto, that sort of thing.

Bearing in mind that Java moss and Java fern is best tied or glued to wood or rocks to weigh them down as they do not grow well with roots in substrate.

I have regular gravel. I have 2 black mollies, 3 platys, 4 zebra danios, 5 guppies. I have LED lights.

Regular gravel is fine for planting stem plants. Again would recommend to go for low tech plants as mentioned above.

Your fish stocking should be fine with plants.

Once you have learned and researched more into plants care, then may evolve to go into high tech plants using co2 and higher lights etc.

Aubias also do best on wood or rock, and realised made a typo on my last post when I said java 'mod' meant to say java moss....

Elodea (Egeria densa) are a good beginners plant as they do absorb a lot of nutrients, including nitrates so that will help your nitrate levels a little bit.

Ok thank you! Is there any place you recommend buying the plants?
