Hi,
I’ve started my new tank 36G, on my 3rd week of cycling and so far so good, been doing my regular water changes. My ammonia is around 1ppm and when I see that it reaches 2ppm I quickly do a 30% water change. The fish that I am using to do my cycling are 6 large Danios and 1 Gourami. I think I have one more week to go before I am fully cycled and can purchase more fish. I recently bought a huge fake rock with little built in caves and hiding places where the fish can go into the rock. The Gourami would go into the rock once a while but the danios would never since they are so active. I plan to keep my existing fish in the tank but I cant decide what I should add after cycling. I guess I would like something that has use of the large rock. I’ve been considering adding 6 corys and feed them sinking pellet food. Can you guys give me some recommendations? I was thinking about African cichlids but I don’t know if they will get along with the danios and Gourami, also been reading how cichlids need higher PH . I am open to any suggestions.
For equipment I have two Marinelife penguin filter w/ bio wheels, 1 250watt Marinelife heater, air pump for bubbles, coralife aquarium lamp.

african cichlids need a species tank, they're vicious little buggers!
what kind of gourami do you have? is it male or female?

I don think cichlids would get on too well with the gourami, I kept kribs in with a honey gourami and it got chased around quite a bit.

What kind of gourami is it? Are they Giant danios?

Hi,

Yeah its 6 Giant Danios, probably about 1.5inch long and one 3 dot (pearl?) Gourami. I want to get some cories soon about 6. Are there any aquarium plants i can put in that doesnt require to much light and turn my tank into a algae jungle? lol Ok so i guess Cichlids are not an option.

Corys should be fine, but you may want to add them in two batches to avoid an ammonia spike. And btw It is possible that you may have to wait longer than a week if you are still having readings of 1 ppm of ammonia- the second phase, the nitrite phase usually takes longer than the ammonia space.

some tetras would be cool to add, maybe some black phantom ones they look nice.
