Well its been a few months since I posted on here. I am looking to restock my 30 gallon after loosing some stock. Few weeks back I found 2 of my 5 bloodfins dead, after removing said bloodfins everything seemed to be fine until I counted my Mollies and 1 is missing now. I have not found a body anywhere in the tank so it seems to have just vanished. I did a large water change and tested daily after this all happened and stats seem fine. No odd behavior or anything. Its been 2-3 weeks since then and I am looking to perhaps restocking my tank since everything seem to be back in order. As of right now my stocking is:
30 Gallon:
3 Molly (1 Molly Fry, recently had babies and only 1 survived, currently in breeding net)
2 Platy
2 BN
5 Oto
3 Bloodfin
8 Coolie Loach (assuming their all still there)
1 Opalaine Gourami
1 keyhole Chiclid
Equipment wise I am running a Eheim 2215 Canister filter, Fluval U3 and air powered sponge filter. Also using 1 yeast based Co2 system switched out weekly. How should I proceed with my stocking? Should I up my bloodfins and leave it at that?
I also have a 20 gallon that has been sitting there for a month and a half running and empty. I have been to lazy to do a proper fishless cycle and have been hesitant since my first attempt to stock the tank with mature media failed. After everything was setup I moved ALL media from my 10 gallon and a DP over to the 20 gallon and within a day he died from ammonia poisoning. The tank had NO ammonia prior to adding the media and DP the 10 gallon had been running for a year too. Right now a few dozen baby snails are growing inside but other then that its empty. I have had the air powered Sponge filter in my 30 gallon for a month now and am curious if that enough to cut a fishless cycle down to less then a week perhaps?
lastly I am moving around March and while I am not to worried about the fish since its a close move I am worried about my planted 30 gallon tank itself. Should I unroot everything and replant or what?
