depends on tank size,

a single firemouth and a single Convict would be fine,
a single firemouth and a single Convict and a pair of kribensis is doable, (depends on individual fish)

25 gallon the tank size is i would say that would be fine for a convict and maybe a couple of firemouths just thought id have a second opinion or correction if i was wrong

tank is too small IMO,
you might get away with 1 of each but your most likely to find the dominant one terrorising the other.

any more ideas then i want either a convict or firemouth and i know its a small tank ..what about a breeding pair of convictcs ??

have you thought about some severums? they remind me of convicts.

a convict pair is fun to watch but IMO it gets boring quickly.

if you do like them...i would recomend getting a predatory fish...even maybe an oscar with a new aquarium to feed your convict babies to?? i spose other fish will eat them when theyre fry and such.

if the tank is too small for convicts how it it going to hold Severums or Oscars ?

The question you need to be able to answer with breeding pairs of any species, (but especially with convicts) is; What will i do with they fry ?
I bet you could count on your hands the amount of LFS's in Britain that will take convict fry off you

if you like the looks and personality of these sort of cichlids but don't really have the space for them then you could build a nice community of dwarf cichlids such as apistogramma, keyholes, nannacara, kribensis etc etc

great little fish, dead interesting to watch and with bags of character. :good:

Oscars need a 120 x 46 x 46cm tank minimum and the same applies for a severum. A 25 gallon tank would be fine for a pair of young convict cichlids but firemouths need a 90cm tank minimum.

Also keeping several species of neotropical and african dwarf cichlids together in that size of tank isn't really a very good idea.

i kno my tank is too small for a oscar and severum ..but i have had my LFS say they will have my convict fry off me but its a case of will they constantly take it off me ...
