Basically whats the best way to do this, with limited stress on the fish?

I have done this before but he was only around 5-6 inches then. I need to do this because i have bought a new cabinet for the tank and need all water out. I don't have a net big enough for him, so what do you suggest i use? should i catch him with my hands or a tea towel or something then transfer him to a bucket?

plz reply all help will be appreciated :good:

would love to help you but ive no idea lol do you no any people that go fishing and would lend you a small landing net? :craz

I go fishing myself, but i wouldnt use the net i use as i don't know what diseases the net might have picked up from different waters

they have large nets at all lfs' that will easily do for your big guy. If you have a quarentine tank, you could use that for the short time he needs to be out. last resort, you could use a 6 gallon paint bucket (can be bought at any home store, brand new and never used). This bucket will be a bit cramped but would work for a few minutes. Any space you use for a holding tank, it would be best to be dark and quiet to reduce the fishes stress (all depending on how long it will be out of the tank)

cheers ox, most LFS are shut on a bank holiday though :/ , maybe a t-shirt would work? lay it underneath him and then lift when hes over it.
this way it won't damage his fins or his slime coat.

what do you think?

I would take a container and stick it in the tank, get him trapped n a corner and he will swim into it, then dump him the bucket, i've done this before with noone cooperating fish! Works everytime!

take the lid off the tank lower paint bucket into water....lure him into the bucket with something yummy to eat...upend the bucket and lift him out...then place lid back on bucket during the change.

to get him back in simply lower bucket into tank water then upend it again.

heres the tank now..

That fish is amazing!! :D how did you move it? i would have suggested a bucket or pale aswell and a large tote for the time being he is out of the tank. if he gets any bigger next time you move him i have a small pool if you need
