I have a small African unidentified fish.

He has a very long, narrow body, similar to that of a slim torpedo. He has a pitch black background, with light blue lines over the top of his entire body.

These blue lines start from the top of the fish and run vertically down until about half way. In other words, the belly of this fish remains black.

He has a very short top fin (the fin on top of his body) yet it runs along most of his upper body.

Currently he is about 2 inches in length.

If you could post any pics of any fish, I could easily match them.

Your help is always much appreciated!

Look up Psuedotropheus Demasoni, Melanchromis Johanni, Pseudotropheus Elongatus, Pseudotropheus Saulosi (male) on Google.

You fish should be 1 of these species if it is an African Cichlid. The pic in my avatar is a Demasoni but your description doesn't match him exactly so i don't think this is your fish, check it out though.

Thanx for the quick reply Ferris.

Actually, my fish looks very similar to your avatar.

The only difference, is that the vertical blue lines are longer than on my fish. My fish's vertical lines stop about 1/2 down the body.

Ill check out the other fish names.

I checked out the links you gave me.

My fish is either a Psuedotropheus Demasoni or Pseudotropheus Saulosi. I think my fish looks more similar to the Demasoni.

Is there a common name instead of the scientific name?

I looked at both types of fish, they look exactly the same to me.

But my fish is undeniably one of these two. Even the face (which i forgot to describe) has the same blue vertical lines.

No common name for either, it is much safer to use the scientific names with Mbuna as there are many with similar appearance. Demasoni and Saulosi are a good example. Demasoni are extremely aggressive and can only be kept with certain other Mbuna wheras Saulosi are less aggressive and can be kept in a Mbuna community tank (note Mbuna community not general community).

Saulosi tend to have a little more white on the edges of their fins, this may help with the id. If you can post a photo though, we'll be able to confirm for definate.

EDIT->I need to learn to read the whole thing before posting

But if your new to these sort of fish make sure you read the pinned topic the mbuna tank
