Need A Bit Of Stocking Advice Please

Hi all

I have a 40l tank- 35x35x40 high, with 2x 200lph filters

This leaves me a small space to have fish, so I have to be careful.

Currently the tank is only home to 1 bolivion ram

Im looking to get some fish for it, I was thinking maybe an Oscar or a common plec?

Nah, just kidding.

I would preferably like something that occupies the top to mid range, as I keep my plants quite low and I need something that is nice.

This is probably too small for a small shoal of cardinals? about 5? I think so though im not too sure.

I hate livebearer fish, so please none of those.

Any help would be appreciated

I'd so get rid of the Ram & put some female Betta's in.

You'd have a little more room if you had just one filter!! One doing 200lph is adequate as it's turning your water over 5 times an hour which is fine so you don't need two. Having two just takes up more space! Also most fish don't like too strong a current.

most of the members here are not too fond of aqadvisor....put together very well, but not enough reliable sources for most of the fish data yet as the site is still quite new


best way to figure out stocking is to run it by knowledgeable people....like this site offers

I bought 5 black phantom tetras today after some research.

I am quite an experienced fish keeper, so I thought this was a right decision, there is plenty of swimming space, they do reach 2 inches, but cardinals are suitable for 10g tanks so these will be fine.

Im looking at subscribing to PFK magazine, and getting the fluval U series filter, and replacing my two with that one (of course putting old media in the new filter), I think its a fluval U3 though Im not sure.
