The xmas break has held things up a bit but the tank and stand are in the place I want them, I spent a couple of hours rinsing the gravel and put it in, filled the tank with water and added water dechlorinator stuff. Now all I'm waiting for is the new heater and light fitting off ebay and can leave it all to mature. I'm buying a testing kit too. I will order some plants so that at least I can have something to look at while I'm waiting for it to settle down and then eventually in the new year can add some fishies yay!!
Still undecided as to what to get though. I have always like the look of silver dollars in a shoals, but it's a toss up between those or tetras. I've decided against a betta for the time being but am wondering about killifish. The loaches are also a must have but again, undecuided on which ones. I want 3 of the same species but as per usual here, cost is a factor. I simply couldn't afford to spend £60 on 3 loaches.
In an ideal community tank, which will be planted with live plants and not have ornaments in what would you have? The criteria are: 55 gallon tank. Would like a shoal of something, 3 loaches, some shrimps or maybe a couple of crabs, and then one or two of something showy. I don't like angel fish particularly, may have some livebrearers, platys, swordtails or something.
Bear in mind that I won't want cichlids in this tank as I'm planning a second tank of the same size containing just cichlids (since I don't have the space for an oscar
