NASTY fish stores

Tokis, I mean no offense to you when I say I have never been to a good walmart,. There may be people working there that are great people, but the company is one of the worst in the world. Its practices in all areas, especially fish, are terrible. I went to walmart about 8 months ago just to see what the fish section was all about because I had many customers telling me they had bought fish from walmart and they died within a day. They also said walmart didn't tell them anything about the fish. When I went in I pretended like I was looking to buy some fish and equiptment but the guy couldn't help me. I watched him scrape algea out of one tank, which was caked in every single tank, with a squeegee. Every tank was bare bones. No gravel, no rocks, no plants, no decoration.

So the next day I went to work. I see a guy looking around the aquatics so I go over to help him and its the fish guy from walmart! So he starts askin me questions and he wanted to buy all kinds of 'sharks' and other bad combos. I explained to him all kinds of basics about keeping a healthy aquarium. I'm hoping he learned a bit.

i agree with the above poster. wal mart sucks in every single category (except prices, and luckily i am not so poor that that matters to me) much less fish. i do admit to buying my tank and stand at wal mart because the exact same units were $50 more at the LFS. i guess that makes me a moron

i mean really how hard would it be for walmart to have a decent fish section?? hire a couple of experienced fishkeepers and put them in charge of maintaining stock and people might actually buy fish there!!! what a concept!!!

The only nice thing about wal-mart's fish dept is the experience I had the other day.

I bought 7 gold barbs which were very healthy.
When I got to the register the woman behind the register who obviously didn't want to be there and didn't care about her job just punched in the UPC code. and rather than ringing me for 7 fish she rang it up for 1. So I paid $1.84 total for 7 gold barbs.
