hey, im new to this and have set up a tank at the moment ive got 2 danios, 1 angel fish and 7 neons. I am yet to buy the ph stuff, thats next on my list, but had the tank for about 4 weeks. The danio's dominate the whole tank, i origionally wanted 5 but the shop keeper lost her patience and only got me 2!

I added 3 tiger barbs who just nipped each other and the danios all the time, so i swapped them at a fish club for 3 angels. I only got 1 left as the danios just bullied them. I was annoyed as i asked at the club if they would be ok with my danios and they assured me they would as danios dont nip - well mine do!

Today i got 8 neons thinking they would be fine, stuck together and pals to the angel fish but 1 has gone missing already in 2 hours of them being in. The danios once again just chase them and nip them, they are huddled together under the plant now. I cant find the missing neon.

Im sick of these danios being like this as i cant get any fish while they are in there. What do i do?

AS i said i not got any ph stuff yet but my temp is fine and the filter is alright.

what size of tank is it? i would have said to add more danios, maybe 5, to see if they keep the aggression amongst themselves but that depends on the size of tank. if you are really fed up then take them back for more neons.

i'd get rid of the danios if you cant provide a large enough school...tiger barbs and danios are both horrible tank mates for angelfish....neons are also horrible tank mates for angel fish, as in the future the angels will stress and likely kill the neons

My tank is 54 litres, the shop wont swap them, i already asked them, anyway i refuse to go back to the shop! I could possibly get some more - would that tame them or would they just bully the new ones too?

unfortunately i think that adding more in a 15 gallon tank would just lead to more problems...they are very active and love to have room to swim around..however, it COULD work out for the better and they will focus their aggression towards each other...

so i'm kind of torn between the two options...on the one hand a 15 gallon is a little small for a large school of danios...but on the other hand, 2 is way too few danios and adding even 2 more would probably make a world of difference....

i say go for it and get 2 or 3 more danios...see if you can swap the angelfish as a 15 gallon tank is too small for a full grown angel (you would need a 20 gallon high or a 29 gallon tank in my opinion)

hope that helps a little

thanks, i dont think the neons are going to last even a week, i already lost one and anothers tail is shredded too. Its just a disaster and i hate the shop and the club for telling me otherwise.

you need to cycle the tank 1stbefore you do anything

the tank is not big enough for 1 angel .Angels need a tank if 30gallons plus to be happy

you need to get rid of the danios.Give them to an lfs or someone with a bigger tank.they need groups of 5 plus to spread out their agression or they will just nip at all other fish. Also they need a much bigger tank.

neons are an angelfishes natural diet so i think we all know where the neon has gone. The angel got abit hungry and it will eat them all.

ph stuff wont work you need to cycle the tank. The neons will die they need perfect water and arnt hardy fish at all.

ok like the other said....the tank needs to be cycled if it isnt, scrap the ph stuff....it does more harm than good, try to get rid of the angel as it gets too big, the danios need to be in a group of 5 min and need a larger tank so try to get rid of those also

i would keep a school of neons(around 7) a few corries or ottos and maybe a dwarf gourami in that size a tank....im not sure though...the others may be able to tell the correct amount and fish for this tank

ok thanks, just one thing, whats cycling? i am totally new to this so dont know anything. I was going to try and buy 3 more danios today, ive nothing to lose. I didnt know that angel fish get much bigger, mines is just little. I have a book but it hardly tells you anything, anyone suggest a good book i can get?

although you two offered good advice you have to realize that you can't just tell someone they need to cycle a tank without a least explaining it to them...
