I have recently wanted to set up a small nano tank, approx 20-30 litres, i would wish to plant it out, add a few shrimp/snails and then have about 4-6 small fish(wcmm).
Which is the best tank?
Do i need a heater?
Could i keep 6 neons instead of coldwater minnows?, if so do they have any special requirements?
is it better to buy just a glass tank and get everything seperately?
Is there any good sites about setting up a nano?

thankyou in advance

neons need a 60cm long about 60 litres up and arent suited to new tanks so neons are a no.

i would recomend a arcadia arc 35 litre but ditch the pod(ebay) and but a CFL. (compact flourescent lamp) you may need a few i think 20-30 watts of lighting is a pretty good idea for the kind of tank your looking at.

and a arc 35litre tank will hold 6-8 WCMM's

i wouldnt suggest it, purely becuase there VERY active fish, that need plenty of space, they also prefer mature water, and the sucess rate of neons IMO is ALOT higher in a 6 month old system that is stable than a newly set up one. stick with WCMM's for the mean time.

Don't get an arcadia arc tank unless you want dust on the surface of your water. The lid doesn't fit properly so it can accomodate the arc pod light which i think are ok. So i would buy a small clearseal tank a couple of arc pods and some perspex(for a lid) off ebay, and a 25 - 50 watt heater depending on tank size, and if you are keeping shrimp such as cherries they will no doubt breed in the tank so to avoid the baby shrimp getting sucked into the filter buy an air pump and a sponge filter.

Hope this helps.

your better off buying a few desk lamps of ikea rather than the arc pods there cheaper and pretty reliable. and in my opinion an air driven filter is not big enough for a tank of that size go with a fluval 1 or something similar, to avoid shrimplets being suck in put some cloth over the filter intake
